Where does the Tour go Post Earthquakes?
THE REBUILD ZONE TOUR
Tour of the Central Business District
Where a previously unknown seismic fault released its energy in Feb 2011 right under our city centre.
This tour highlights the ongoing deconstruction/rebuilding/reopening process.
We visit Cathedral Square, the Restart Mall, New Regent St, The "Cardboard Cathedral" also the memorial sites of the CTV building and the symbolic 185 chairs memorial Art Installation.
You will hear about the Blueprint for our city Central Business District and about plans for Anchor projects such as a new Rugby Stadium and Convention Centre.
The commentary includes explanation of the 12,000 (plus) earthquake events that have affected local people and their daily life, and the loss of heritage buildings of Christchurch.
THE COMBO TOUR
A short visit to the CBD and then we head to Mona Vale through Hagley Park. Hear about last century's history & the early wealthy owners of Mona Vale.
We look at the earthquake damaged Homestead and visit the Rose Garden, & Fernery *(currently closed for repair)
RICCARTON HOUSE & MONA VALE
Riccarton House and the Deans' Family played an important part in the early beginnings of European Settlement in Christchurch. We arrive at Riccarton House and park the Segways beneath a Tasmanian Bluegum tree that Jane Deans planted in 1857.
We venture into the original tiny family cottage that housed 12 people and read of the early history of the family and their community.
We head back through Mona Vale and Hagley Park.
